Race description
EXTREME NAVIGATION
Cape Horn Race is the only race round Cape Horn island. It starts and finishes in Saint-Tropez. It is comprised of 6 legs during 6 months of passion and emotion. The sporting manifestation between October 2013 and April 2014 follows a summer season of regattas. This ocean-sailing event provides an original challenge in I.R.C. handicap racing. The challenge aims to promote, organise and develop a high-level sporting competition, new, international, and at an accessible price, which is open to professionals, yacht owners and young people…
Accessibility
| A competition for single-hulled sailing yachts of overall length between 47 and 75 foot (14.3 metres to 23 meters), this I.R.C. handicap race gives each team an equal chance of winning, whether onboard a production, racing or charter yacht. During 15,000 nautical miles of ocean navigation, the fleet will be tracked by satellite. According to I.R.C. handicap, the team with the fastest time-on-handicap wins. A website in several languages will show a classification in compensated time, and the competition will be easy to understand and exciting to follow. Each team will be able to win trophies and the overall winner will | have the opportunity of staging the second edition of the race in 2017 in his own country, town and yacht club. In this way the race may be renewed every 4 years with a different itinerary. An international event whereby each yacht clearly displays its national ensign attracts passionate public interest. The race will appeal to an international fleet of yachts from Latin American countries; European and southern-hemisphere nations with a Cape Horn maritime history; and finally those countries in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Far East that are in the process of developing their nautical tourism. Race concept and planning is | designed to attract a large number of participants nspired by the challenge of Cape Horn. This will ensure a spectacle, sufficient revenue to organise the sporting event, and enhanced media exposure. Race subscription for the entire race, including 6 legs, is offered at a price from only 10,000 euros for a yacht-entry for 6 months of racing! The sporting event will therefore be accessible to a diverse and younger public. All are invited to participate: towns, cities, their yacht clubs, sailing schools, universities or higher education establishments as well as other organisations. |
